My name is Rebecca, and I am married to Tom. Tom is a pastor and serves as the Discipleship Pastor at a wonderful church. I am a chemist and spend my days working at a large chemical company, reading reports about pesticides. Tom’s job is more interesting than mine, but I still think my job is pretty fun.
We have two cocker spaniels, Gracie and Riley. They joined our family soon after we were married, and they are our pride and joy. A few years after we got them, we started trying to have a family. That was 6+ years ago, and they have been the perfect children as we have walked down this road. We could not have undergone this journey without their sweet, silly presence in our lives.
I am a follower of Jesus. I used to think God was mostly angry, spending most of his time disappointed with us humans. But these days, I am seeing him more as the God who was revealed in Jesus: good, gentle, humble, loving and forgiving. I no longer see him as being disappointed with me, even on the days when I feel like I am a disappointment.
I write a lot about our infertility and how it relates to our views about Jesus. I also write about my faith journey, with all its questions, anxieties, fears and joys. I have an analytical brain which rarely quits thinking and questioning, and as a result, I have a lot of questions about God and theology. I try to write about questions, and some of my answers, with as much authenticity and grace as possible.
On February 2nd, 2015, we welcomed our daughter Abigail into the world. She has healed us in so many ways. We are now undergoing IVF treatment for baby #2! You can read more about our infertility journey here.
