WE ARE PREGNANT!
It has been a quiet 9 weeks on the blog. Turns out I’m not so inspired during the first trimester, while dealing with 24/7 nausea and exhaustion, in addition to the constant fears that something may go wrong.
But things aren’t going wrong! From the very beginning, things have gone so right. We did an IUI on May 27 (so I pretty much got knocked up on our anniversary). And we got a positive pregnancy test on June 11.
I went in the next day for a beta hcg test, and then repeated the test two days later. For a healthy pregnancy, the hcg levels should double every 48 hours. With the first pregnancy, my hcg levels did not perfectly double, but with this pregnancy they more than tripled!
Then we had an ultrasound at 6 weeks, 6 days. The baby measured 7 weeks exactly and had a perfect, strong heartbeat. The doctor told us that our chance of miscarriage had now dropped to 5% and that we could be pretty confident that this would end up well. We scheduled our next ultrasound for two weeks later. If that went well, our chance of miscarriage would be less than 1%.
So today was two weeks later, our last ultrasound at Midwest Fertility. And it went very, very well. Our baby is still measuring one day ahead, which is awesome because I can call myself 9 weeks today instead of 8 weeks, 6 days. Our chances of carrying this baby to term are high. We are obviously still scared, still waiting for the other shoe to drop, but we are also immensely grateful for this opportunity. To those of you who prayed, a countless number I know, thank you. Please keep praying and fighting for this little miracle of ours!
